Hazrat Ibn Abbas (R.A.A) reported that the Messenger of Allah said: He is not of us who is not kind to our juniors and shows no respect to our elders or bids what is good and forbids what is wrong. (Tirmizi)
The duty of the seniors:
Dear brothers and sisters we know that as per teaching of Islam the seniors have some duties towards juniors. Those who are seniors they should bind the juniors in tie of love and affection and be kind to them. They should give chance juniors to share with their experience and to be benefited from it. The seniors should bid the juniors to do what is good and forbid them wrong because comparatively they have grown wiser by experience. Due to lack of experience the juniors are sensitive, perceptive and more emotional. The emotion of the juniors should be checked and controlled and mobilize towards right path. On the other hand there should be so many torch-lights for the guidance of the misguided youths and act what they say in their mouths. The seniors should allow the juniors to gain profit from their vast knowledge and experience.
The duty of the juniors:
The juniors, on the contrary should show respect to those who are superior to them in age and intellect, because showing of respect to them is equivalent to glorification of the Almighty Allah. The respect towards seniors may be shown in many accepted ways, by kissing hand and by standing provided standing does not give a sense of pride and greatness to the persons shown honor, or such a person is understood not to be eager enough for such standing out of vanity and pride.
In other words, evil habits must not be encouraged in any way. Nobody will enter Paradise who made others stand for the purpose of receiving honor and every true leader should dislike standing of others for him in his honor as the holy Prophet did. The junior should give salute the elders. The reason is that our dearest Porphet (pbuh) declared in another Hadith: If a young man shows honor to an old man on account of his age, Allah will create for him at his old age someone who will show him honor.
