Editorial: April 2010

Dear reader

Assalamu alaikum warahmatullahi wa barakatuhu
We are fine by the kindness of Allah and pray that so are you with His blessings. Happy Bangla New Year or ‘Shuva Nobobarsa’. As Bangla Nobobarsa, which falls on April 14, reminds us of the Mughal Emperor Akber’s introduction of the Bangla calender. Like us the people of Thailand also celebrate their new year Songkran on April 13 to 15. We always tend to celebrate our friends only on the occasion of Gregorian New Year on January 1 but we tend to forget our alternative New Years of our own. This is because peoples have been so much westernised in the last centuries that they have almost forgotten to celebrate their own New Years, cultures and traditions no matter how rich and poor they are. So the cover story explores the alternative new years among the nations, encouraging the nations forgetful of their glorious past to give a second thought to their values, ethos and cultures.Hope you will like the story and send comments on it.

Dear subscribers
Those of you who have appeared at SSC, Dakhil or the equivalent have ample time to read and get ready for college admission. It is high time you read extra-curricular books including biography of great men and their followers.Take care of your health, by drinking lots of safe water and other fluids which counteract the heat of the simmering summer season.
See you next month inshaallah.
