As Bangla Nobobarsa, which falls on April 14, reminds us of the Mughal Emperor Akber’s introduction of the Bangla calender. Like us the people of Thailand also celebrate their new year Songkran on April 13 to 15. We always tend to celebrate our friends only on the occasion of Gregorian New Year on January 1 but we tend to forget our alternative New Years of our own. This is because peoples have been so much westernised in the last centuries that they have almost forgotten to celebrate their own New Years, cultures and traditions no matter how rich and poor they are.
