Editorial: January 2010

Dear readers
Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu
As citizens of a post-colonial society probably you are waiting for another Gregorian new year with a well-thought plan, aspirations and also ambitions. Those who have sat for final exams in Bangla-medium schools and madrassah in December, January is the month of double joy. But for the English-medium schools such a happy moment comes when it is June. It is not only a moment of joy for us it is also high time for chalking up a plan for the next 365 days. You can count a year by month, days, hours and even seconds. Those who will count their days in seconds they will be able to maximise the use of their time followed by those who will work keeping counts of minutes. But the most imprudent one will go on counting years and while away his or her time lazily. He will have no plan, schedule, time division.
The cover story tries to delve deep into the feelings of a girl who lived almost throughout her life without parents except the early years. Life sometimes lived with uncle, brother, sister-in-law and sometimes with sister gives a very bad signal for her only to understand the importance of having parents, duties to them. Even being a psychiatrist she couldn’t cure her psychological problems which were caused due to living without parents.
Hope the story will inspire us to take care of those who live away from parents on the planet. We must extend our cooperation to such children who want to live with all the fundamental rights they are entitled to get according the country’s constitution.
See you soon inshallah.
