Dear reader
Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah
People, particularly the rich section of the world, are consuming 25 percent more than the planet can produce though over 100 crore people go to bed on an empty stomach most of whom live in the predominantly Muslim South Asia and Sub-Saharan countries. The more people consume the more they create refuse and leftover. High living standard in the west cause high consumption, resulting in rampant consumerism. This very consumerism is emptying the poor planet. So people are encouraged to waste less, by using less and using things again, in order to protect the environment. So disposals and trashes can be recycled by which we can not only keep our environment clean and green but also conserve some of our natural resources. A bizarre outfits can be made of plastic shopping bags and used newspapers, collages can be made of old plastic, coloured paper and torn stockings, and jewellery made of sweet wrappers and other bits and pieces. Pet bottles and empty coffee tins can be painted or decorated and thus transformed into toys. Egg shells can be turned into a showpiece. A large tree can come to life in the form of bottle-tops to represent leaves. And Ikebana can be made of metallic shavings, paper flowers and and even from a broken earthenware pot. To create an awareness about the limited resources and their reuses your favourite magazine has made Ikebana into the cover story. Hopefully the story will inspire you to resort to making Ikebana.
No more today and hope to see you next.
