Abdullah bin Amr (R.A.A.) reported: The Prophet (pubh) said, “A Muslim is the one who avoids harming Muslims with his tongue and hands.” (Bukhari)
Power of speech is a wonderful gift
Dear readers, if we think deeply, we may realize that it is astonishing as well as wonderful to be able to speak. In another Hadith our dearest Prophet (pubh) said: “Allah’s great and countless mercy is that He has given us so many things to live and survive in this word. Tongue is one of them.” It would very much difficult to express our opinions to the others without the tongue. Allah said in the Quran: Have we not made for him a pair of eyes, and a tongue and a pair of lips? And showed him the two ways (good and evil)? (Al Balad: 8-10) We should consider while speaking that whether everything is true or not? Making mistakes is not bad but it is bad to hide those telling lies.
Telling lie is a bad habit
It is a bad habit to tell lies to make people laugh. Allah’s messenger (pubh) said: “Woe to him who tells lies to make people laugh, woe to him, woe to him!” (Ahmad & Tirmidhi) A man slips more by his tongue than foot. One day a person asked the Prophet to point out one thing that he must do at all times and the Prophet (pubh) said to him: “Do not tell a lie.” Think the following proverb: A tongue of two inches can kill a man of six fit long.”
Use your tongue in proper way
We have to remember that it is Allah Who has taught us eloquent speech. So, as good and sincere Muslims we should use our tongue in proper way. Abu Musa (R.A.A.) reported, some people asked Allah’s Messenger, “Whose Islam is best? (I.e. who is a very good Muslim?” He replied “One who avoids harming the Muslims with his tongue and hands.” (Bukhari) We must realize how bad it is to tell a lie. Allah the almighty does not like the liars. Our Prophet (pubh) said: “Truth is good. Good deeds lead to paradise. Falsehood is wickedness. Wickedness leads to hell.” Therefore, a good Muslim all the time speaks the truth.
