Mountaineering has been an adventurous job for a long time, especially to the people living in plain lands. So people tried to conquer newer and higher mountains and the endeavor still goes on. A team of five to ten strong, stout and adventurous persons climbs the mountains, facing and passing lots of hindrances away, taking life risks and reach to the top where they set their national flag, heightening the name of the country in the world history.Seven years in Tibet is actually a biographical film, based on a book with same title written by Heinrich Harrer, an Austrian mountaineer. Although the film highlights mountaineering, Tibet is its main story. It is a periodic film featuring the life and cultures of Tibetans during the World War II. Prominent actor Brat Pitt acted as Heinrich, an adamant mountaineer from Austria. As Austria was under the rule of Germany that time, Heinrich carried the flag of Germany. A team of mountaineers were sent to reach to the top of Nanga Parbat situated in India from the German government. It was in the year 1939.
It was a challenge for the team, lead by Peter, because few teams were sent before but all of them were failed due to the heavy cold and avalanche and many of them were dead. When the weather became worse, Peter ordered to retreat and they had been caught by the British Soldiers as World War II has broken out and all the foreigners staying in British colonies are treated as prisoner. Arrogant Heinrich tried to escape few times but failed every time. However, in a group effort they succeeded to escape but Heinrich removed himself from the other members of the group.
It was hard to live alone in an enemy state, without the help of other. Heinrich became sick and Peter joined him to help. The two entered into Tibet, a country away from all kinds of problems. During that time, Dalailama was a child only, very much interested in learning about the world. Tibetan people were very much peace loving and busy with themselves and their religious activities. Peter and Heinrich tried to enter Lhasa, a city considered pilgrimage to the Tibetans. Foreigners are restricted to enter Lhasa, so the pair followed a deceptive way and succeeded to enter. Soon after entering Lhasa, they were treated as guests of Dalailama and Heinrich became the teacher and friend of young Dalailama. He taught Dalailama about the world inventions and fulfilled his curiosity.
While staying in Lhasa, they came to know that World War II has ended but stayed there with the request of Dalailama. But things were changing. China faced a revolution by the Chinese Communist Party and they tried to take Tibet under their control. Young Dalailama tried to prevent the peace loving people from the collision with Chinese Army but failed. The Chinese attacked on Tibet.
Seven years in Tibet became a very good film due to its relevancy with fact. Heinrich returned to Austria and wrote the book upon which the film was directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud. In order to know the Tibetan culture and beliefs along with the Communist activities in world politics, Seven Years in Tibet is a must see film.
