Indeed! In the creation of the heavens and the earth, and in the alteration of night and day, there are indeed signs for men of understanding. (Al Imran: 190)

Allah did not create anything aimlessly

Dear readers, among the things we see around us, everywhere there are signs of Allah, and everything of this universe providing proof of Allah’s Oneness. If we think deeply, we will see that Allah did not create anything without any target and aimlessly, as Allah says in the Quran: Those who remember Allah standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides and think deeply about the creation of the heavens and the earth, (saying): “Our Lord! You have not created all this without purpose, glory to You! (Exalted are You above all that they associate with you as partners.) Protect us from the punishment of the Fire. (Al Imran: 191) Allah, the almighty also tells us, “and on the earth are signs for those who have Faith with certainty. And also in your own selves, will you no then see?” (Adh DHariyat: 20-21)

Think about some organs of your body

Well, let us think about our two eyes, one tongue and two lips. Is there anyone in this world who can speak freely using one lip? No it is quite impossible. Now think deeply what Allah says in the Quran: Have We not made for him two eyes? And a tongue and two lips? And sown him the two eyes? (Al Balad:8-10) In the verse, the two ways mean the way of good and evil, the way of Paradise as well the way of Hell.

The uprising after death

Dear readers, sometimes doubt might strike us that how will we be brought to life after death? So there is a best example in the following verse to understand it. Allah says in the Quran: And is a sigh for them is the dead earth. We have brought in to life and brought forth it grain, and from it, they eat. (Yasin: 33)

We see the land lies dry and dead, and then Allah quickens it so it begins to bloom in no time. So many kinds of fruits and grain grow in gardens and fields and we are the people who utilize them all. However, the dead land is a sign for us. If we think deeply and observe it, we can easily understand the Uprising after death. Therefore, it is clear that Allah will be able to resurrect us on the Day of Judgment.

“Glory to He (God) Who did take His servant for a Journey by night from the Sacred Mosque to the farthest Mosque, whose precincts We did bless”.
— [Qur'an 17:1]

The Sura Isra opens with the ayat which deals with Prophet (PBUH)’s journey towards Allah subhanuwataala. Muhammad (PBUH) that night started his journey on a steed Buraq in a single night in the year 620AD from masjidil haram and reached masjidil Aqsa. And from then he flied upwards to the seventh sky.

Jerusalem in Islam is considered a sacred city, and has played a significant role in the

faith. The al-Aqsa mosque of Jerusalem is considered the third holiest site in Islam, after the mosques of al-Haram and al-Nabawi. It is strongly associated with people regarded as Prophets of Islam – in particular, David, Solomon, and Jesus. For long 16/17 months it was the first qibla (direction of prayer) in Islam, before the Kaaba in Mecca; Muhammad by Buraq visited Jerusalem, where he prayed, and then heaven.

The Qur’anic verse (17:1) is interpreted by all widely used tafsirs (commentaries) as referring to this journey, with the term “the farthest Mosque” (al-masjid al-Aqsa) referring to the Noble Sanctuary in Jerusalem, where the mosque stands.
Some scholars claim it is holy after the cities of Mecca and Medina, some assert it is a city that contains a holy site, and some conclude it has little or no actual sanctity. In the light of Holy Quran Muslims have the valid rights to say prayers in Al-Aqsa mosque.

May Allah keep us on the right path

O, Our Lord! Guide us on the straight path. (Surah No. 01, al-Fateha, Verse No. 05)

Before asking any help follow the instructions:

Dear readers, we undoubtedly believe in only One and the only One God, the Creator and Owner of everything, He is most Merciful and most Kind, He is the Lord of the Day of Judgement, therefore, we praise Him alone, and we ask for His guidance and help to show us the right path. But, before that, we must ensure that we are following the instructions and teachings already available. If we don’t follow Allah’s instructions He will not accept our prayers.

Results of prayers depend on follow up of guidelines

Firstly we have to practice what we are told and then we have to ask for guidance and help if we encounter any difficulty. We Muslims in practice do not follow the teachings of the Qur’an and just do the lip service and ask Allah for help and guidance without any intention of following those guidelines prescribed for us, and then we think about the results of our prayers and as kings.

When Allah gives answer of our prayers:

The Qur’an has clearly indicated that first follow the instructions and teachings and then ask for guidance, for sure Allah will answer all our prayers. The first prayer that has been taught in the Qur’an is that may Allah help us keep on the right path. This Qur’an that we are studying is the prescription of the right path. By applying the teachings of the Qur’an we can easily reach our goal and destination. We will get an honorable life both in this life and hereafter.

O my Lord! Increase me in knowledge.
Surah : Ta-Ha, Verse : 114

What is knowledge?
Dear brothers and sisters, do we know what knowledge is? Knowledge is the information, understanding and skills that a man gains through education or experience. There are two type of knowledge: the derived knowledge and revealed knowledge. Knowledge is power. Islam is not only a theoretical system of life, but also serves as a practical guidance to the human needs. Islam considers that knowledge is the first step of Imaan. Knowledge is important in order to practice the commandments of Allah in a proper and correct way in our everyday life.

The importance of knowledge:
We know that the first five verses revealed by Allah, gives the importance of acquiring knowledge. Acquiring knowledge is obligatory for every Muslim man and woman. Among all the immeasurable creations of Almighty Allah only human beings have the power of thinking and understanding. Our dearest prophet (pbuh) was sent down by Allah with the mission of teaching the people and purifying them with proper knowledge and wisdom so that they may be able to fulfill the instructions of Allah in proper way in all aspects of their lives. Because, a man without knowledge is like a drinker who does not know whether the drink he is going to consume contains poison or honey.

What is the foundation of every good thing?
Imam Ibnul Qayyum has said: The foundation of every good is knowledge and justice, and the roots of all evil are ignorance and transgression. Another Islamic scholar Imam Ghazali has said: Knowledge exists potentially in the human soul like the seed in the soil; by learning knowledge becomes actual. May Allah the Almighty gives us the ability to acquire proper knowledge for the salvation of this worldly life and for the prosperity in life after death.

O you who believe! Fear Allah and keep your duty on Him. And let every person look what he has sent forth for the morrow, and fear Allah. Verily, Allah is All-Aware of what you do. (Surah No. 59, al-Hashr, Verse No.: 18)

The nature of men:

Whenever we are asked to do anything we immediately think: what is the use of doing it and what harm are involved in not doing it? This is the very nature of men. We will not be very eager to avoid which are productive, meaningful and useful in everyday affairs as well as future life. Now if we think about the mentioned verse, we see that Allah the Almighty has told us to be careful before doing anything. Our activities should be meaningful and as per the guidance of Allah subhanahu wa ta’la.

The meaning of “fear of Allah”:

In the verse, “fear of Allah” means the fear offering Him or self-control, guiding ourselves from all sin, wrong and injustice, and the positive of “Taqwa” or “fear of Allah” is here emphasized. It is not merely a feeling or an emotion: it is an act, a doing of things, which become a preparations and provisions for the Hereafter, the next life, which is “to-day”. The repetition emphasizes both side of “Taqwa”, so we have to let our soul fear to do wrong and let it do every act of righteousness; because Allah observes both our inner motives and our acts. Therefore, this is the best time to evaluate our previous life and believe deeply that we all will die one day. Allah has said in the Qur’an: Every person is a pledge for that which he has earned. (Surah At-Tur: 21)

Immediate action:

Well, if we think that we could not do so in our previous life, then now we should not waste our time in vain, but we have to seek Allah’s forgiveness as well as His countless mercy. In addition, we have to remember the saying of Allah: Despair not the Mercy of Allah: verily, Allah forgives all sins. Truly He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. ( Az-Zumar: 53) Moreover, we can remember one Hadith narrated by Abu Said Al-Khudri (R.A.A). Allah’s Messenger (pbuh) said, “if a person embraces Islam sincerely, then Allah shall forgive all his past sins, and after that starts the settlement of accounts, the reward of his good deeds will be ten times to seven hundred times for each good and an evil deed will be recorded as it is unless Allah forgives it.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari)

Therefore, it is quite reasonable to take preparation for the eternal and permanent life. May Allah give us the ability to do the things carefully for tomorrow.

Dear bothers and sisters in the above-mentioned verse the role of the Muslims against the unbelievers have been described.

Firstly: The attitude of unbelievers towards the believers

The unbelievers are not well-wisher of the Muslim community.
Secondly: The role of Muslims against the evil activities of unbelievers

Allah instructs the Muslims that if they have patience and be pious and can remain steadfast in the way of Islam, the infidels and the enemies of Islam can’t harm them. The Muslims should not be worried as Allah is always by them.

Oh, surely the friends of Allah have nothing to fear, nor shall they grieve. (Surah no. 10, Yunus, Verse no. 61-62)

Allah knows all situations:

The purpose of the statement is to console the Prophet (pbuh) and to warn his enemies. On the one hand, the Prophet (pbuh) is being reassured that the resoluteness, diligence and perseverance which characterize his efforts in preaching the truth and attempting to reform people are well known to Allah. It can hardly be conceived that after entrusting to the Prophet (pbuh) a perilous task that Allah would leave him alone, unassisted.
Warning to the Prophet’s enemies:

A duty owed to Allah by all men is the Pilgrimage to the House, if he is able to make his way there. And as for the disbeliever, Allah is all-Sufficient, needing nothing from all the worlds. (Surah no. 03, Al-Imran, Verse no. 97)

The meaning of Hajj:
Dear brothers and sisters, hajj or the pilgrimage, is the last among those acts of worship which Islam enjoins upon us, upon the Muslim ummah all over the world. The word Hajj means to make a determination to visit a holy place: visiting the Ka’ba in Makkah is therefore called Hajj. The origin of hajj is rooted in the Prophet Ibrahim’s life, peace be on him.

The universal Islamic movement:
The occasion of Hajj may rightly be called the annual international assembly of the Muslim ummah. During Hajj, Islamic brotherhood becomes particularly evident and can be experienced in a special way by everyone who takes part. Barriers of language, territory, colour and race disappear and the bond of faith is uppermost. Everyone has the same rights, the same values, and the status in the House of Allah- the status of His servant.

The importance of Hajj:
Our prophet (pbuh) has said: whoever performs Hajj solely for the sake of Allah and, in the course of it, abstains from sensuality and disobedience, he returns from there as immaculate as a child just born. (Bukhari, Muslim) During Hajj we learn that we belong to Allah, we will return to Him and we must do as He commands us. If we do, we will surely be successful in this life and in the Akhirah.

O you, who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon before you that you may become righteous. (Surah No. Al-Baqarah, Verse No. 183)

Fasting is an obligatory act:
Dear brothers sisters, Ramadan is a month of fasting and training for Muslim Ummah. A Muslim observes obligatory fasting not to gain anything from the world but to make Allah happy. The followers’ surrender, submission and pledge of allegiance to Allah constitute the essence of Islam. Fasting is a unique practice in human history as it helps humanity to master their bodies, feelings and emotion. First man Hazrat Adam (pbuh) fasted first though not in the present form. The followers of Hinduism, Jainism, Confucius and Zoroaster practiced it. The Jews observe as annual fast on the Day of Atonement in commemoration of the descent of Moses from Sitnai. The prophet Moses was qualified to receive revelation form Allah after 40 days of fasting. Jesus fasted for 40 days in the desert and commanded his followers to fast.

1. The ancient Greek Philosophers would observe fasting for several days at random in a year. According to them, it is the best way to purify the soul. 2. The famous Philosopher Pythagoras would observe fasting forty days, as per his opinion “Fasting is helpful for thinking.” 3.Both Socrates and Aflatun would observe fasting ten days too. 4. The ancient Sirians would observe fasting every 7th day. 5. The Mongolians would observe fasting in every 10th day. After all, in all ages there was a tradition of fasting to rectify the soul. Therefore, the institution of fasting is universal.

Aims of fasting:
Aim of fasting is to resist temptation and achieve self-control. Through fasting, we learn to keep ourselves away from any food, drink, dress, money or any action that Allah has forbidden for us as well as which displeases Him. These are the things symbolically we are avoiding following Allah’s order.
May Allah give us ability to continue our normal duties for the next eleven months so that the training we are receiving during the month of fasting may reflect in our private, family, social, political, international and every sphere of our life.

Indeed! in the creation of the heavens and the earth, and in the alteration of night and day, there are indeed signs fro men of understanding. (Surah no. 03, al-Imran, verse no: 190)
Allah did not create anything aimlessly:
Dear readers, among the things we see around us, everywhere there are signs of Allah, and everything of this universe providing proof of Allah’s Oneness. Allah did not create anything aimlessly, as Allah says: Those who remember Allah standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides, and think deeply about the creation of the heavens and the earth, (saying): ” Our Lord! You have not created (all) this without purpose, glory to You! (Exalted are You above all that they associate with you as partners). Protect us from the punishment of the Fire. (Al-Imran: 191)

Find out signs in your own selves:
Let us think about our two eyes, one tongue and two lips. Is there any one in this world who can speak freely using one lip? No, it is quite impossible. Allah says in the Qur’an: Have We not made for him two eyes? And a tongue and two lips? And sown him the two ways? (Al-Balad: 8-10) In the verse, the two ways mean the way of good and evil, the way of Paradise as well the way of Hell. Allah says: And is a sign for them is the dead earth. We have brought in to life and brought forth it grain, and from it, they eat. (Yasin: 33)

The dead land is a sign for us:
We see the land lies dry and dead, and then Allah quickens it so it begins to bloom in no time. The dead land is a sign for us. If we think deeply and observe it, we can easily understand the Uprising after death representing Day of Judgement. May Allah the almighty increase our knowledge. Amin.
