Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride (2005) is a fantasy animated film directed by Mike Johnson and Tim Burton. This movie tells a story about a corpse bride who was betrayed and murdered by her fiancé. Corpse bride resembles the fantasy-romantic stories of children’s animated movies. The striking uniqueness of this movie is that the movie ends with a tragedy whereas other films for children would prefer a happy ending. Corpse Bride does not bring a joy to heart but it makes you appreciate your life and think about how doomed and ruined one’s life can be.

The story of Corpse Bride takes dramatic turns several times. Such turns are unpredictable and they grasp the viewers in what-happens-next excitement. Tim Burton’s talent in picturing a European village in Victorian age where a supernatural incident of a dead bride’s returning to mortal’s world and a mortal’s journey in the world of dead is astonishing. A grim Dark-bluish imagery of the total movie carries the viewers to the world where they can actually picture the story happening and feel like they are right there with the characters.

The storyline of the movie Corpse Bride involves romance, murder, fantasy, a touch of musical and heartbreaking tragedy. The story begins with a young man, Victor Van Dort (Johnny Depp) rehearsing his marriage pledges with his bride Victoria Everglot (Emily Watson) at Lord Everglot’s establishment. Victor’s parents are nouveau riche fish merchants and Victoria’s parents are spiteful aristocrats who are preparing the arranged marriage which will restore Everglot’s lost money and pride and raise the Dort’s social class in exchange. Victoria likes Victor at their first conversation over playing piano. Victor is a very shy man and he becomes nervous at the sight of Victoria. Victor was very nervous on the rehearsal and he messes the arrangement up by dropping candle from his hand in a clumsy move and setting fire on the Lady Everglot’s gown. An unknown Lord Lord Barkis Bittern (Richard E. Grant) who drops out of nowhere in scene takes pride in extinguishing the fire of Lady Everglot’s gown spurting wine onto it. The Pastor scolds Victor and embarrassed, Victor walks out. Victor has been given a little time to prepare for the rehearsal and he strolls out of the village in a nearby forest in the dark. The dark cold night shivers Victor. He practices his vows in the woods and puts his wedding ring on a dead root of a tree or he thought so. The root turns out to be the finger of a dead young woman clad in a tattered bridal gown, who rises from the grave claiming that she is now Victor’s wife. Spirited away to the surprisingly festive Land of the Dead, the bewildered Victor learns the story of Emily (Helena Bonham Carter), his new “bride,” murdered years ago on the night of her secret elopement. After being attacked and killed while waiting for her fiancé in a dark, scary forest, the Corpse Bride is bound and determined to never, ever be left again. Meanwhile, Victoria’s parents hear that Victor has been seen in another woman’s arms, and become suspicious.

Victor is taken to underworld of the dead and finds it very festive. He finds his dog that died in Victor’s childhood and it was a gift from Emily. He tricks Emily and gets back to mortal’s world. He tells Emily to wait in the forest and runs to Everglot’s place to tell what that he loves her. Emily soon arrives and sees the two of them together and, feeling betrayed and hurt, drags Victor back to the Land of the Dead. Victoria tells her parents that Victor has been unwillingly wed to a dead woman, but they believe she has lost her mind and lock her up in her bedroom. With Victor gone, Victoria’s parents decide to marry her off to a presumably wealthy Lord Barkis Bittern (Richard E. Grant). Emily is heartbroken by Victor’s deception, thinking he loves Victoria simply because she is alive. Victor, however, apologizes for lying to her, and the two reconcile while playing a piano together. Emily learns her supposed marriage to Victor was never valid. In order for their marriage to become valid, Victor must repeat his vows in the Land Of The Living and drink poison- thus joining her in death. Victor agrees to die for Emily. The dead ones go “upstairs” to join their union. After a quarrel with Lord Barkis -and realizing his greed for dowry – Victoria follows the procession of dead to the church. As Victor prepares to drink poison, Emily realizes that she is denying Victoria her chance at happiness the same way it was stolen from her. Lord Barkis interrupts them, and Emily recognizes him as her former fiancé – who is revealed to be the one who murdered her for her family Jewels. Lord Barkis tries to kidnap Victoria but Victor stops him. Lord Barkis mockingly proposes a toast to Emily claiming she’s “always the bridesmaid, never the bride!” accidentally drinking the cup of poison. The dead drag the “new arrival” away to the Land of the Dead. Emily sets Victor free of his vow to marry her, giving the wedding ring back to Victor and her wedding bouquet to Victoria before exiting the church. As she steps into the moonlight, she transforms into hundreds of butterflies, presumably finding her eternal rest, as Victor and Victoria look on.

At the end of Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride, one of its protagonists must also peacefully contend with the reality of the situation. What makes these moments that much more meaningful is that they are essentially the opposite of what we are taught about practical love: we respond to rejection with anger, contempt, and a passive attitude that is accusatory and/ or apathetic. We aim to move on. Burton’s characters are uplifting in that they encourage an idealistic view that love and hope should exist beyond hurt and pain, both of which are temporary. “Always the bridesmaid, never the bride” is how one character describes the aforementioned Corpse Bride. Unlike movies which attempt to disprove or rise above such negative sentiments, the characters of Tim Burton accept the grim reality of their situation and are content with their lot in life.

Muhammad Islam

The cute and funny panda named Po who became dragon warrior after defeating a villain tiger and saved the valley of peace returns in the second film of the Kung Fu Panda franchise, titled ‘Kung Fu Panda 2’. Po the dragon warrior who is not a traditionally hardcore kung fu fighter but a funny and glutton panda who reversed his incapacities and became dragon warrior as was prophesized by master of kung fu Oogway.
Unlike most American animated movies that has a storyline which features lives in America, Kung Fu Panda takes up a story that takes place in China and universalizes it. For the audience, it is a piece of work that parents and children watch through together.
The detailed animation of kung fu kicks and fire power satisfies the criteria of an animated action-packed thriller movie, a drama of emotional issues of Po’s past and the Villain’s too that is followed by a self-discovery for Po the panda and comedy of full of jokes and humors.
The movie stars Jack Black as Po, Dustin Hoffman as Master Shifu, Angelina Jolie as Tigress, Gary Oldman as Shen, Jacky Chan as Monkey, David Cross as Crane, Seth Rogen as Mantis and Lucy Liu as Viper.
In the movie the story resumes where Po with his friends and father, Mr. Ping the goose live happily in the valley of peace. Po is the dragon warrior and deemed with respect by the animals of the valley but his lessons are not over. His master Shifu says that Po must gain ‘inner peace’; the highest point of spiritual journey in the virtuous life of a Kung Fu master. ‘Inner peace’ is a state of knowing oneself best and reaching to depth of one’s self and taking control of the path of life. Po makes fun and tries to get away from the austere practices. The story gets intense when a new villain rises. This new villain is named Shen; a peacock.
The story of Shen tells the past of Po. Shen had a gift of firepower. He had dark ambitions to rule all of China. He learned from the court’s goat soothsayer that “a warrior of black-and-white” would one day defeat him. Shen thought that the warrior was a panda and he started destroying panda population to avert the prophecy. Shen’s parents were horrified at this atrocity and exiled Shen, who swore revenge.
Shen strikes back after thirty years and with his destructive weapon he defeats Kung Fu master Thundering Rhino. The news spread to the peaceful valley of Po’s. Alarmed, Po and furious five departs for Gongmen city. Po was adopted by Mr. Ping the noodle maker.
Po and his friends confront Shen’s army of wolves and find their way to the tower of cannons. Po and the furious five were on the losing edge in the battle but they stroke back with together and Shen saw that he did not stand a chance. Po was about to grasp Shen but he was distracted by the sign he had glimpse of previously on a wolf soldier of Shen. Po understood it had something to do with his past and his origin but he could not pull the strings of his memory to find out. Shen claims that Po’s parents never loved him before he blasts Po out of the factory and captures the Five. Po was saved and given treatment by the soothsayer of the court Gongmen City. Guided by the soothsayer to embrace his past, Po remembers that when he was young, his parents had sacrificed themselves to save him from Shen’s extermination, his mother hiding him in a radish crate before being subdued. Po thus attains inner peace, realizing that he had lived a happy and fulfilling life despite this tragedy.
Po returns to Gongmen City to save the captive Five. Shen is about to launch the battleships to on conquest of China. Shen orders to get rid of him. Po uses his inner peace to invent a kung fu technique that allows him to redirect Shen’s cannon fire against his own fleet and destroy it. After most of the ships are destroyed by the joint force of Master Shifu and his disciples and Storming Ox and Croc, two imprisoned Kung Fu heroes of Gongmen, Shen is in no state to strike, Po speaks to Shen urging him to let go of his own past, but Shen attacks Po until he unintentionally slashes the ropes holding up his last cannon, which falls and smashes him to death. Victorious, Po returns to the Valley of Peace. Mr. Ping who was always anxious about Po is overjoyed and runs in a hug with Po. Po was also happy to be back to his dad. At the same time, Po’s biological father living far away who survived the battle with wolves of Shen senses that his son is alive. The story ends here.
The movie Kung Fu Panda 2 is marketed by Dreamworks all over the world. Kung Fu Panda has been viewed as a movie for children as well as for adults. The superb comedy was perfectly commensurate with the fantastic Kung Fu action that was kick for animated comedy-thriller films in the entertainment world. The views of Valley of peace and Gongmen city are mainly based on Chengdu City known as ‘the city of panda’ and Qingcheng, a famous Taoist mountain.
On this movie, the popular film magazine ‘Empire’ notes, “…a richer plot, life lessons and loving Chinese cultural references turns sweet, scary and charming, with yet more fantastical kung fu, make this an engaging winner. Stunning visuals make it real art as well.”

Naimul Hamid

Well viewers, this write up is somewhat different because it contains the movies that are yet to be released. To write before the release is tough because you can’t say whether it will meet your expectations. The expectations are formed because of names behind the film, sometimes it may be the director, sometimes it is the producer or stars on the movies. In most cases, the most expected movies are the sequels of another movie and they fail severely meeting the expectations of the viewers.

Lets take a glance of the movies that are going to be released this year but already created a buzz around the film industry.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2

Perhaps Harry Potter is the most successful movie in all of its sequels. Part 2 of ‘Harry Potter and the Deadly Hallows’ will be released in July 2011. A test screening has already been held last month in Chicago and director David Yates expects this second part will also become very successful like the previous one and other parts of the movies. Based on the J K Rowling novels, this is the seventh and final instalment in the Harry Potter film series. Following the part 1 of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, part 2 continues Harry, Ron, and Hermione’s quest to find and destroy Voldemort’s remaining Horcruxes.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon

Transformers: Dark of the Moon is the third film in the Transformers film series, directed by Michael Bay and produced by Steven Spielberg. It is the sequel to Transformers and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and is scheduled for release on June 29. In this sequel the Autobots learn of a Cybertronian spacecraft on the Moon and must race against the Decepticons to find it and learn its secrets, which could turn the tide in the Transformers’ final battle. Although the last sequel didn’t meet the viewer’s expectations fully, this sequel may become successful.

Cowboys & Aliens

Cowboys & Aliens is the upcoming 2011 science fiction Western film based on the 2006 graphic novel of the same name created by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg. The film is directed by Jon Favreau, and starred Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford and Olivia Wilde. It is executive produced by Steven Spielberg and produced by Brian Grazer and Ron Howard.

A spaceship arrives in Arizona, 1873, to take over the Earth, starting with the Wild West region. A posse of cowboys are all that stand in their way. Cowboys & Aliens will be released in the United States on July 29, 2011. A fight between the gunslingers and Aliens would be amazing to watch, what do you think?

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is the upcoming 2011 action mystery film directed by Guy Ritchie. It is the sequel to the 2009 film Sherlock Holmes based on the character of the same name created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law reprise their roles as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson, respectively, as the duo join forces to outwit and bring down their most cunning adversary, Professor Moriarty. The first part was overwhelmingly successful that creates bigger expectation this time. Let’s see if it can successfully meet the expectation.

The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn

Your favorite cartoon character Tintin with its lovely dog, Captain Haddock, two twin police officers Thomson and Thomson are on the silver screen now! Combining the stories of The Crab with the Golden Claws, The Secret of the Unicorn and Red Rackham’s Treasure, the film depicts Tintin’s first encounter with Captain Haddock and the discovery of a clue to the treasure of his ancestor Sir Francis Haddock. They set out to find it with protection from a prison escapee who tried to get the treasure as well as Detectives Thompson and Thomson. The is directed by Steven Spielberg (Jurasik Park) and produced by Peter Jackson (King Kong), the two famous film directors especially know for special effect use in movies. The film will be released in the last of this year.

It was in 1995 that Toy Story signaled the arrival of Pixar, and the rest was history. To date, it does seem that Pixar has indeed grown from strength to strength with sophistication in its graphics and attention to detail, but more so that their creative teams have always come out with solid stories to tell, which is always the key beneath all the glossy bells and whistles visuals.

Viewers have accepted the movie because it has a moving story to tell, and has various elements from action-adventure, comedy and drama all rolled into one, allowing an outpour of a kaleidoscope of emotions as a journey for close to 2 hours with Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz (Tim Allen), Jessie (Joan Cusack), Mr and Mrs Potato Head (Don Rickles and Estelle Harris), Hamm (John Ratzenberger), Res (Wallace Shawn), Slinky Dog (Blake Clark) and the aliens (Jeff Pidgeon) for one last hurrah.

The storyline for all three Toy Story films may share some similar plot lines in having the constant fear of being discarded and unwanted when one turns old, or to obsess with the thought of being forgotten and unappreciated, and almost always comes with a distance to conquer. That continues here in stronger terms given that it’s been some 11 years since the last Toy Story film, and that the toys’ owner Andy has already outgrown the toys and have chucked whatever’s left all into a treasure chest. Making things worst, he’s about to relocate to attend college, and thus the anxieties that Woody, Buzz and the rest of the gang has to come to terms with, being provided 4 options of heading for the trash, the attic, being given away or being that rare toy that gets to accompany Andy to his new environment.

New toys get introduced by way of how the story got crafted involving a children’s day care centre, metrosexual Ken (Michael Keaton!) from Barbie (Jodi Benson), and others such as the Lotso bear (Ned Beatty), together with those belonging to a new human character called Bonnie (Emily Hahn) who owns a cool plush Totoro (which doesn’t speak of course)! Sequels tend to overcrowd their stories with plenty of characters, but it worked perfectly for this installment as other than those which get lines, there are plenty in the background that you may just spot a few that you too may have owned at some point in time. Things also aren’t quite what they seem at the day care being the paradise for toys in constantly being played with and loved but never to suffer a heartbreak or to be left feeling unwanted, and provides the basis upon which the story develops, providing plenty of challenges for the gang to overcome (gotta love that Monkey!)

What’s powerful about Toy Story 3 are the themes that get thrown in, such as that about loss, and the search and fight for things that are worthwhile. It emphasizes the bonds of friendship and courage, while tackling how the lack thereof in abandonment and the feeling of tremendous loss, can someone turn one into a bitter soul, which allowed for the film to take on tragic, darker consequences unseen in the earlier installments, while balancing the light hearted moments. We get to grow with the familiar characters a little more, while having new ones which are just as fun. Just ask Ken!

Toy Story 3 is a must see, and it’s contending for a space in my top 10 for the year. It’s a sequel done right, a tale with a lot of heart, with elements encompassing what essentially is a fitting tribute and farewell to beloved characters that have blazed the trail for computer generated animation to take centerstage. As with all PIxar feature films, a short precedes the main feature, and “Day and Night”, like the one offered in Up, comes without dialogue, but with plenty of imagination and again, a solid story for a well animated short film that only Pixar can.

Perhaps almost all kids love to learn Karate while they watch films with dazzling karate actions of Jackie Chan, Jet Lee or Tony Jaa of ‘Ong-bak’. A film titled “The Karate Kid” was released in the year 1984. The story dealt a teen boy who wants to learn karate and goes to an old man. The old man engaged the young boy with household chores and other activities. The boy was angry, indeed, he learnt karate. The film was such a success that three sequels were directed after this.

After a long time, a new “Karate Kid” has been released this year directed by Herald Zwart. Here the new kid is Dre Parker who has been shifted to Beijing with his mother. Being teased by the local kung-fu prodigy Cheng, Dre decided to get revenge. However, he was succeessful but caught by the Cheng-team and beaten. Mr Han, a kung-fu master released Dre from the young cults.

Dre requested Han to teach kung-fu but he refused and met Cheng’s teacher Master Li. But Li challenged Dre to fight Cheng. Han declined this request but Li threatened that they would not leave the place unless either Dre or Han himself fight. Han took the challenge and promised Dre to teach kung-fu. A friendly relationship began between the two and they got prepared for tournament. The rest of the story can be imagined by anyone but the technique of teaching kung-fu was really enjoyable.

The Martial-art master Jackie Chan starred as Han and Jaden Smith starred as Dre. Jaden Smith, son of famous actor Will Smith, is also known for his film ‘The pursuit of happyness’. The film is produced by Will Smith himself and it is considered an effort to make Jaden a movie star. The film indeed makes Jaden a star because of his brilliant acting and kung-fu techniques. Critics have also praised this movie. Rotten tomatoes, a website to rate films based on the criticisms, rated this move 6.4 out of 10. Also, it brings a great success in the box office earning about 358 million US dollars around the world.

Perhaps it is the time to learn some kung-fu techniques. Watch the movie, learn the tricks.

It’s a never ending argument that the current educational system is not correct, but what should be right way? What should be the standard? I don’t know but I can say the name of the film that will provide you some materials to think further. It’s Patch Adams, the movie that will surely make you laugh and think for the betterment of the educational system.Patch Adams was released in 1998 and it is starred by Robin Williams, one of the well known comedians, in the main role. The story is based on a true life story of Hunter ‘Patch’ Adams who is a medical doctor and became for his unconventional approach in medicine. Adams attempted to suicide after the death of his father and later got admitted in the psychiatric ward of the hospital to get cure. During the period, he realized that he can forget his problems by helping others and it encouraged him to become a doctor. So, two years later, he enrolled in a medical University as the oldest first year student.

In the University he clashed with the Dean Walcott. His argument was that doctors should get closer relationship with the patients that help much to the patients. But it was Dean who appreciated not to make any relationship other than doctor-patient relationship. Here a relationship is developed with two of his fellow students, Corin and Trueman, and they shared the Adams’ philosophy about doctor-patient relationship. With the help of Arthur Mendelson who was also a patient in that psychiatric ward, Adams established a medical clinic. Patch was very good at building warm relationships with the dying patients although it was not permitted for the junior students.

During the visit to a psychologically disturbed patient, Corin got murdered by him and this made Adams feeling guilty. He was dismissed from the school because of the administering of a private clinic without any license but he filed a grievance with the state medical board and explained his reasons behind them. The Jury accepted Adams’ medical methods and he completed graduation successfully.

The film is quite enjoyable although the critic’s responses are low. Directed by Tom Shadyac, Patch Adams was nominated for the best picture for the Golden Globe awards. You may find similarities between Patch Adams and Munna Bhai MBBS starred by Sanjay Dutt of Bollywood. Both stories are based on the same theme and perhaps Patch Adams is more enjoyable. In real life, Patch Adams built his hospital that is free for the patients for the treatments and its working well.

I asked God to take away my pain.
God said, No.
It is not for me to take away,
but for you to give it up.
I think this heartbreaking conversation was the main topic of interest to the filmmaker Alejandro Amenábar to make such a film like “Sea Inside”-Starring: Javier Bardem, Belén Rueda, Lola Dueñas, Mabel Rivera and Tomar Novas .
Amenábar, whose gifts with magic realism and atmosphere were put to great use in his last film, The Others (starring Nicole Kidman), has a gift for capturing actors bound by their own bodies. With Kidman, Amenábar built a gothic prison of her own metaphysic devising; in THE SEA INSIDE, Bardem’s prison is constructed from his own useless limbs.
The story is simple, but the drama is complex. We follow the life of Spaniard Ramón Sampedro. The movie is set in present-day Spain where Ramón is fully paralyzed from the neck down. At first glance, he appears to be happy and content, always smiling and jovial. But, soon, we find out that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. The truth is that Ramón is dying on the inside. He sees no real purpose in his life, since a diving accident when he was a younger man at the age of 25, which we see through flashbacks.
The most thrilling part to me of this film was one of the dialogue of Ramon. He always used to smile & once answered to a question, “When you can’t escape and you depend on others, you learn to cry by smiling.”

Ramon was physically unable to commit suicide. His family won’t help him kill himself and the government says it is illegal. Ramone fought for his right to an assisted suicide for 29 years, but it still was thought illegal. To Ramone, his one quote sums it up best, “I believe that living is a right, not an obligation.”
Julia, a lawyer, is taking on his case pro bono and representing him in the courts. She often visits him athis house to help him build his case. Together, she and Ramón build the case which argued that suicide was a right and that he was being denied that right. First they took it to the courts of Spain, but later, his case drew attention from across Spain and a significant following worldwide.
One would swear that the dashingly handsome, 35-year-old Bardem was a graying man in his mid-50s. This is not simply because of the effective aging done by British make-up artist Jo Allen (The Hours), but also through the subtlety of Bardem’s gestures, movements and speech. No other actor this year was called upon to do so much with so little.
Unfortunately however, Amenabar too often relies on cinematographic clichés to illustrate his characters. The movie is replete with unnecessary close ups, and especially in the first couple of scenes, the insipidness of the cinematography (i.e. to illustrate the difficulty of the paralysis, when the beautiful Julia arrives to speak with Ramon, a slo-mo pan is used going from Ramon’s face, down his body, arm to his hand, which lies helplessly two inches away from Julia’s) is blatant.
The Sea Inside’s opening voice-over—a Sampedro poem about color, texture, and light—calls justified attention to the gliding camera work of cinematographer Javier Aguirresarobe, who added grace to Almodóvar’s smooth Talk to Her. And indeed, when we’re not forcibly trained on Bardem or distracted by Dueñas, it’s the camera’s perspective that is most compelling. Ramón’s fantasies of mobility involve thrilling defenestration and flight across the countryside. In these moments, and during underwater flashbacks to the tragic ocean dive that snapped dashing young Ramón’s neck, we’re reminded of Aguirresarobe’s hand in achieving the otherworldly atmospherics of Amenábar’s The Other.
Obviously I have sympathy to such people struggling to survive with limitation physically or mentally, but if I were in such situation I would struggle till I had the opportunity to feel the golden rays of morning sun. I want to say them,
Do not become paralyzed and enchained by the set patterns which have been woven of old. No, build from your own youthful feeling, your own groping thought and your own flowering perception.”

Remember-“Visionary people face the same problems everyone else faces; but rather than get paralyzed by their problems, visionaries immediately commit themselves to finding a solution.

After ending the show the first impression that came to my mind and I think also to Ramón’s family members
“If I knew it would be the last time
that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
and call you back for one more.”

This film makes me cry. Usually when I sit for seeing film I make 2 or more film seen, but on that day I was totally reluctant to see another film after this-as I did not want to overlap another impression on that. It probably will make you cry but it’s just a sign of how well this movie was done. So what are you looking for?

Farhan Sadiq

I never met a man having the title Islamic terrorist. I don’t know how their behavior is, how they act with their surrounding people or how they look like, but I experienced a man who help the helpless, say his prayer regularly, responsible to other religions and believe in God (who can rescue a man from any danger). Does all these characteristics match with a Islamic terrorist? But he was saying “My name is Khan and I am not a terrorist.”
Yes you are right, I am talking about Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johor’s latest film “My name is Khan”. Karan and SRK made some blockbuster films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hay, Kabhi Khusi Kabhi Gum, Kal Ho Na Ho, Kabhi Albida Na Kehna etc. But all these films have a common character – all are emotional romantic films. But this latest one is a little bit different from others. SRK tried to establish a character of a Muslim Autistic person who holds some extraordinary features.
The context of this film is nine-eleven when some terrorist attacked twin tower. The situation that arouse after this event in USA is exposed in this film. Muslims were identified as terrorists or associates of terrorists. All Muslims were seen in the eye of suspicion. Their Hijab, beard, name became a burden for them. They were bound to remove these feature, from then, even Muslims started to change their names. What are you thinking? Are these conditions matching with some of Hollywood films on 2nd World War where Jews were portrait as ‘good for nothing’ and all were destroyed by Hitler’s Nazi? Situation is seen worse than that in this film.
SRK and Kajol had to lose their only child – who was the life saving element for Kajol when his first husband left her. SRK as a Muslim had to be tortured as a terrorist when going to meet with US president, calling for Justice and punishment for his son’s murder.
Let’s analyze the film – Karan is obviously a good filmmaker. He has proved it in his earlier films. But the style of telling the story is not good enough I think. In a short duration a lot of circumstances are shown – that may be a reason. Music are too much imposing. A true and real emotion can be created even without any music (No country for old man is a perfect example) Music could be better. But I must say, some direction of photography was really good – especially the shots at beginning and the landscapes.
SRK can perform better than this – his behavior as a Autistic could be better. Close observations, and a long time to perceive and go through this character deeply was needed. Kajol – well done. Portraying George Bush was good but Barak Obama was not enough.
Now come to the point of choosing this film for the readers. This film represents what is going on around us. Situation turned us to experiences a massacre in Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine and now in Pakistan. How can you be sure that it can’t be happened in Bangladesh or other developing countries? May be the process will be like this – ban your Islamic channels, media, create misconceptions in people minds. How can you be sure that your sister or daughter will not face a trouble that SRK’s brother’s wife faced as she was wearing Hijab? All the solutions are given in the film. Explore and discover it. I think this will help you con conquer even your best enemy’s favor.

What will be your response if someone say excepting you all of your relatives gonna die? you will be well paid but first kill your wife, child & friends. Its not the fact how good, well wisher, polite & humane they are, fact is that they are not of our mentality & group. Is it possible to accept this offer by a person having humanity in mind? To justify all these circumstances one must visit to the lobby of Hotel Rwanda.
Recently people are very much concerned about what will happen if nature destroys our world, what will we do if something like Tsunami or Aila visit us again? (you may know the total number of dead were more than 139000 in Tsunami)
Now imagine 800,000 dead in 100 days, but this slaughter caused by human hands. That’s what happened in 1994 in Rwanda, when the Hutu majority tribe attacked men, women and children from the minority Tutsi tribe. As we see in the stunning “Hotel Rwanda,” they hacked, stabbed, shot and burned one person at a time. The human effort of that, the will it took, to ignore the supplications of one victim and move on to the next.
When a country descended into madness and the world turned its back, one man had to make a choice. When the world closed its eyes, he has to open his arm. And in this film a man named Paul Rusesabagina (Don Cheadle) came forward to show the last breath of humanity towards mankind.
He spends his days arranging favors for people in power and getting supplies to satisfy his prominent guests. He sees all of this as potential collateral to be used in dangerous times for his wife Tatiana (Sophie Okonedo) and children. As the tension between the two major groups in Rwanda, the Hutus and the Tutsis, Paul sees even more reason to hold on to this security, and soon enough, Hutu militants begin the systematic murder of the Tutsi minority in response to the death of the republic’s president, whose death was supposedly perpetrated by Tutsi rebels. Paul is Hutu; his wife is Tutsi. Upon arriving home when the fighting begins, Paul finds their house overrun with his Tutsi neighbors, who think Paul is the only Hutu they can trust. Soon, Hutu military personnel find the refugees in Paul’s house, and after some intense bargaining, he manages to bring them all to the hotel, where they can stay until United Nations peacekeepers in the area under the command of Col. Oliver (Nick Nolte) can arrange their safe passage.
Director and co-writer Terry George is no stranger to political filmmaking – or political ‘hot potato’ topics – having worked as a screenwriter with Irish director Jim Sheridan on two films that examined the IRA: In The Name Of The Father (1993) and The Boxer (1997). With its ‘unfashionable’ African subject matter George thought he would never get Hotel Rwanda financed or made for that matter, having been told time and time again “that Hollywood has almost no interest in African stories…because they are a financial liability”. Black is not beautiful in Hollywood, it seems.

But when it is made, the film has scored three major nominations at Academy Awards, including Best Actor for Don Cheadle (Boogie Nights, Out Of Sight) who once again manages to find the emotional core of every scene he is in playing Rusesabegina. It is a demanding role but one this immensely talented actor is more than up for. And the rest of the cast are also uniformly excellent, including Sophie Okenedo (Dirty Pretty Things), Nick Nolte (Cape Fear) and Joaquin Phoenix (To Die For).
His epiphany after being told by Nick Nolte’s U.N. peacekeeper that the West views him and his people as “dirt, worthless,” and therefore won’t intercede in the slaughter, is crushing. The film contains many such zingers: snippets from a radio broadcast in which a Western political spokeswoman says that while there have been “acts of genocide,” they don’t meet the criteria for being declared genocide; the Tutsi man who gives the back story on the ethnic tensions and how they were created (“The Belgians used the Tutsi to run the country. Then when they left, they left the power to the Hutu. And, of course, the Hutu took their revenge on the Tutsi for years of repression”); Joaquin Phoenix’s well-intentioned photojournalist, listening to that same fellow explain how the Belgians managed their divide-and-conquer colonialist strategy: “According to Belgian colonists, the Tutsi were taller, more elegant. It was the Belgians who created the division. They [arbitrarily] picked those with thinner noses, lighter skin. They used to measure the width of people’s noses.” Phoenix shakes his head and remarks that two women friends sitting next to him at the hotel bar — one Hutu, the other Tutsi — could be twins, they look so much alike. Except they don’t, and the film brilliantly lets his statement hang there.
It’s no surprise that the movie, based on the real story of Rusesabagina, won the People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival and a similar prize at the Los Angeles Film Festival. It sweeps over you with blunt, unequivocal conviction.

What is the purpose of a film? To entertain, to aware people or to change a society? If anyone agree with this 3, then he must be viewer of Rajkumar Hirani’s film 3 Idiots, a university struggle of 3 engineering students.
This well organized film was the talk of the year for many reasons. lets see why people eagerly waited to see a hindi movie like this. 3 IDIOTS is Aamir’s next release after the record-breaker GHAJINI. Ameer minimized his weight and stayed in a college for a long period just for ensuring best performance.

• 3 IDIOTS is Rajkumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s third film together, after MUNNABHAI MBBS and LAGE RAHO MUNNABHAI, landmark films.
• Three actors from the path-breaking RANG DE BASANTI team – Aamir, Madhavan and Sharman – team up yet again. Plus, Aamir’s teaming up with Hirani. It couldn’t get bigger!

3 IDIOTS is over-hyped and that could be dangerous for any film since it’s the expectations which kill a film if the content doesn’t match up to the hype. In this case, all izz well!
Hirani is always conscious about recent context of society & demand of generation. After making 2 movie with same character in Munna vi he brilliantly choose different character, plot & message for young generation and I will say he is succeed in his attempt.
Loosely based on Chetan Bhagat’s bestseller Five Point Someone, 3 Idiots takes the plot much beyond the campus confines and the target audience much above the youth, for universal appeal.
Coming from Rajkumar Hirani, there was clearly a risk involved in the film’s setting and characterizations for having a déjà vu effect with his first film. Boman Irani, as the principal, almost revives his disciplinarian dean characterization from Munnabhai MBBS which is more palpable with his disgust towards the rebellious protagonist, Rancho (akin to Sanjay Dutt) who is furthermore in love with his daughter (ala Gracy Singh). Nevertheless, Hirani’s direction is so impeccable that without a conscious effort, the analogy never strikes your mind and the scenario never looks repetitive.
Hirani grabs your attention from scene one with an unconventional opening to the film. Thereafter every single scene written in the screenplay (by Hirani and Abhijat Joshi) is not just relevant but also has a clear set objective – to be funny or be deeply poignant. Which means it either makes you laugh or cry and at some superlative instances do both simultaneously.
About three engineering students who believe in ‘I’ll Do It On my Terms’ and that’s what the three characters achieve in life. Those who read in an engineering university are well known with embarrassing rag culture by seniors .I think by showing this practice negatively Hirani will achieve some respect from the sufferers.
Farhan (Madhavan) and Raju (Sharman), 10 years after they have finished their engineering from India’s most prestigious engineering college find a clue to finally find their lost friend from college. Rannchoddas Shamaldas Chanchad aka Rancho (Aamir) their ex-room mate in the college hostel had silently disappeared on the graduation day leaving behind no clue of where he had left for. Rancho was the life of the college and with his unique wit had back then even managed to rattle the strict head of the college, Viru Sahastrabuddhe (Boman) but at the same time managed to win the heart of his daughter Pia (Kareena). Before leaving, Rancho had brought a major change in almost every person’s life he had come closer to.
The film is a must watch for every Aamir fan. Just check the way he successfully carries out the role of a 22 year old despite being 44 years older.
It teaches us to think out of the box, to look at things with the curiosity of a child and most of all, to follow your heart. The movie leaves you feeling light hearted and optimistic, and assures you that all can be well if you want it to be.

There are some sequences that can and should be omitted like delivery of a woman.
Why should a student go to study in an institution? For a merely certificate, for a good job with a smart salary or for making parents feel happy? Does it carry any responsibility of making a man enlightened with learning? If you agree with first one then you will be frustrated with 3 Idiots, but if you agree with 2nd you will be cheered up by this film.
