Abdullah bin Amr (R.A.A) reported: The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam said, ” A Muslim is the one who avoids harming Muslims with his tongue and hands. (Sahih Al-Bukhari)
Power of speech is a wonderful thing:
If we think deeply, we can realize that it is astonishing as well as wonderful to be able to speak. Prophet (PBUH) said: “Allah’s great and countless mercy is that He has given countless things to live and survive in this temporary world. Tongue is one of them.” it would have been impossible to express our opinions to the others without the tongue. Allah said: Have We not made for him a pair of eyes, and a tongue and a pair of lips? And showed him the two ways (good and evil)? (Al-Balad: 8-10) We are spending a lot of time talking to others. We should be carefule because making mistakes is not bad but it is bad to hide those telling lies.
Do not drop a bad smell in the air:
When a man tells a lie, he drops out a very bad smell in the air. This is a very bad habit to tell lies to make people laugh. Allah’s messenger (pbuh) said: “Woe to him who tells lies to make people laugh-woe to him, woe to him!” (Ahmad & Tirmidhi) A man slips more by his tongue than foot. One day a person asked the Prophet to point our one thing that he must do at all times, and the Prophet (pbuh) said to him: “Do not tell a lie.” Moreover Allah has appointed angels to record our speeches as He announced in the Qur’an: “not a word does he (or she) uttered but there is a watcher by him ready to (to record it).” (Al-Balad:18)
Guard your tongue:
Allah has taught us eloquent speech. So, as good and sincere Muslims we should use our tongue in proper way. Abu Musa (R.A.A) reported, some people asked Allah’s Messenger, “Whose Islam is best? (i.e. Who is a very good Muslim?)” He replied, “One who avoids harming the Muslims with his tongue and hands.” (Bukhari) We must realize how bad it is to tell lie. Allah the Almighty does not like the liars. As Muslims, we are asked not to hurt people’s feeling telling lie. Our Prophet (pbuh) said: “Truth is good. Good deeds lead to paradise. Falsehood is wickedness. Wickedness leads to hell.”
May Allah give us ability to guard our tongue so that we don’t harm anybody.
